CLOSED: Call For Applications: Media Relations Training Course

The African Centre for Media Excellency (ACME) invites staff of civil society organizations in Uganda to apply for a training course on media relations. During the workshop, ACME will introduce trainees to a new media relations handbook which is the result of lessons, recommendations and experiences gleaned from six years of media relations training and coaching conducted by ACME for over 30 CSOs.

About the course

This is an exciting course for both middle level and senior staff working on programmes or as communication officers. The training focuses on the Ugandan media and communication landscape. It introduces learners to the forces and pressures within a typical newsroom and the journalism industry in general.

The course offers a series of practical lessons on how to effectively present and package information for the consumption of the media for the benefit of their audiences and other partners. This includes designing communication/media strategies; writing effective press releases; delivering professional media interviews; writing opinion articles; organising media events; learning about the potential of social media and how to define key messages.

When will it take place?

Two courses are lined up to be held on the following dates: 21 to 23 April and 25 to 27 April, 2016.

Successful applicants will be required to attend all three training days in full.

Deadline for submission of applications is Monday, 18 April, 2016.

Who can apply?

15 CSO staff will be admitted for each of the training courses.

You can apply for this course if you:

  • are working with a CSO/NGO in Uganda and your work involves sharing information;
  • have a passion for communication, advocacy and exchanging experiences.

Females are particularly encouraged to apply.

How to apply

  • Send a letter of interest explaining your expectations from this course to akakaire@acme-ug.org.
  • Alternatively, you may submit a hard copy application to ACME offices located in Bunga-Soya on Ggaba Road.

Admission to the course will be on a first come first serve basis.

The training is free and morning tea/coffee and snacks, break tea/coffee and snacks, lunch, and afternoon tea/coffee and snacks will be served everyday. ACME will also provide notebooks and handouts.

There is no budget for transport refund, per diem or any other type of “facilitation”.

The training is NON RESIDENTIAL.
