Eight Daily Monitor journalists have been nominated by the African Centre for Media Excellence (ACME) for exceptional journalism awards in various categories.

They include Mr Stephen Wandera, Mr Charles Mwanguhya Mpagi and Mr Andrew Mwanguhya, Mr Paul Menya, Mr Felix Warom Okello, Mr Jimmy Kwo, Mr Bamuturaki Musinguzi and the Editorial cartoonist Mr Chirsogon Atukwasize (Ogon). The eight nominees are part of 50 journalists who have been shortlisted for the awards.

In the broadcast categories, Ms Florence Naluyimba, Mr Samuel Ssettumba, and Solomon Serwanja from sister broadcast station, NTV, are also nominees for the same awards.

The annual awards organised by ACME are meant to recognise and promote excellence in reporting and to inspire quality journalism in Uganda.

This year’s winners will be announced today at a dinner in Kampala to be presided over by Chief Justice Bart Katureebe. Renowned South African journalist Ferial Haffajee, editor of the City Press newspaper, will deliver a keynote address.

According to ACME records, a total of 155 journalists from media houses across the country participated in the awards, submitting 261 entries. Of these, 50 finalists were chosen by an independent panel of expert judges.
