The training will help the participants understand what internet freedom entails and how it compares to, or affects the wider offline freedoms most citizens are familiar with. Participants will be introduced to the international, regional and national instruments governing human rights and other legal provisions.
Why should I attend?
By the end of the training, participants will have increased awareness and understanding of the rights to online freedom of expression, assembly, privacy and access to information and the need to uphold them. Participants will also be able to articulate the international and continent-wide frameworks that underpin internet freedom. Participants will have a firm understanding of the tactics used in restricting internet freedoms and be able to present counter-arguments to the justifications given for these controls. Given the growing importance and influence of the internet in our daily lives, this is practical knowledge that students will be able to apply in their day-to-day endeavours.
