Elections involve real people, real choices and the decisions that shape their communities. Reporting on them requires covering the strategies, actions and voices that define the process while ensuring information is accurate, fair and ethical. Reliable journalism helps citizens understand the developments that affect their lives and supports informed decision-making.
ACME’s updated Guidelines for Media Coverage of Elections in Uganda sets out standards and responsibilities for reporting that is thorough, balanced and fact-based, helping audiences see the full picture of Uganda’s national elections.
Key areas covered in the guidelines:
-
The media’s role in elections and maintaining editorial integrity
-
Accuracy, verification, sourcing, and handling corrections
-
Avoiding discrimination, hate speech, and political bias
-
Ethical considerations around political advertising and conflicts of interest
-
Safety of journalists
-
Digital and social media reporting, including managing disinformation and online engagement
