Easter road safety tip sheet for journalists

During the Easter break, there is usually an increase in the number of people travelling across Uganda. This is what you can do as a road safety reporter or advocate.

  • Raise awareness about the importance of wearing seat belts to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities in case of a crash.
  • Highlight the dangers of drunk driving: During the Easter period, many people indulge in alcohol consumption. It is essential to raise awareness about the dangers of drunk driving and how it can lead to road crashes and fatalities.
  • Discuss the role of law enforcement: Law enforcement agencies play a crucial role in ensuring road safety during the Easter period. Highlight the measures to enforce road safety regulations and ensure drivers and passengers comply with safety guidelines.
  • Discuss the importance of vehicle maintenance: Poorly maintained vehicles can increase the risk of crashes on the road. Discuss the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, such as checking brakes and tyres, and how it can reduce the likelihood of accidents during Easter.
  • Highlight the importance of road safety for commercial drivers: Commercial drivers, such as truck and bus drivers, often spend long hours on the road during Easter.
  • Discuss the importance of road infrastructure: Road infrastructure plays a crucial role in ensuring road safety. Highlight the importance of road maintenance and its role in reducing the number of crashes on Uganda’s roads.
