What happened

The African Institute for Investigative Journalism (AIIJ) was blocked from holding a public screening of its ‘On The Go’ – The Dark Side of Labour Externalization documentary, profiling Uganda’s labour externalization industry and exposing what Ugandans go through in the Middle East. A team of Police officers attached to Kabalagala Police Station ordered the management of Mestil Hotel, where the launch was scheduled to take place, to close the venue. The organizers (AIIJ) were told to get ‘express permission’ from the IGP to hold the public screening. Panel discussions were later hosted on a Twitter Space, and the documentary was published on the AIIJ YouTube channel at 2 pm.
