Fighting broke out in Uganda’s parliament for a second day on Wednesday over a controversial bill to remove the age limit for the president. The bill had been set to be tabled on Tuesday, however, opposition MPs had disrupted the proceedings by singing the national anthem. Proceedings were once again disrupted on Wednesday with brawls, scuffles and MPs being ejected from building. Speaker of the House Rebecca Kadaga had tried to suspend a number of MPs from proceedings before the chaos. The Ugandan authorities had earlier in the day banned television stations from transmitting live footage of the proceedings. The bill to remove the age limit from the constitution would pave the way for President Yoweri Museveni to run for elections in 2021. RFI’s Daniel Finnan spoke to Peter Mwesige, Executive Director, African Centre for Media Excellence on the matter.
